A Few Verses for the Wise
During this Sunday morning's sermon at the church I belong to, the assistant pastor preached and used the following text as part of his message. But while he was preaching and came to this text I started thinking about the bible version issue. Who was it that pawned these modern versions onto the Body of Christ causing much confusion (1 Cor 14:33)? Was it the body itself clamoring for an easier to understand bible? Was it the pastors and teachers suggesting an updated Av without those pesky thees and thous? Or was it the farmer teaching his children to read by the old corn stove? The answer is none of the above. The answer is some "we know better than you" scholars; the answer; as James White likes to put it, the informed "Christians" wanted to help us "uninformed" bible believers. Nevertheless, these verses hit their sin on the head:
1 Corinthians 3:18-20
18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written , He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. 20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
